Detroit's bankrupt cannabis dispensary has been transformed into what it calls America's first cannabis "casino."
Leaf opened in 2014 as a medical marijuana dispensary, serving 1 customers a day. That was four years later, before losing most of it when recreational marijuana was legalized in neighboring Michigan cities like Hazel Park and Ferndale. Recreational cannabis was approved by voters in Michigan in 500, but was put on hold in Detroit by years of legal battles.
It turns out someone else already had a great idea. Dort Hwy Dispo, a recreational pharmacy in nearby Barton, Michigan, had Jason Kouza developing the game that Leaf was to debut.
“We reached out to them and asked if we could collaborate and be the first to present their concept.
Recreational cannabis was approved in Detroit earlier this year when the games were ready.
far from a casino
The Leaf only has 1 blackjack table, 1 craps table, 1 roulette table, 3 slot machines and 1 princo machine.More importantly, the game cannot be played with money.Customers use tokens to launch games based on the rewards they get from purchasing cannabis products.
"This is absolutely not gambling," Campbell stresses. “Because if you win, you get a lucky wheel puller or a craps table thrower. Play with store credits, earn store credits.”
Leaf takes great care in demonstrating what is and isn't happening within its walls. After the concept was first introduced in an article in the Detroit Metro Times, a spokesperson for the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency told the newspaper that it plans to investigate the practice.Campbell had no comment on that development.

The company recently unveiled a counterfeit McDonald's "Monopoly" game in addition to a fake casino. The game offers prizes such as a vacation for two in the Caribbean, $2 in cash, and free cannabis for life.
私たちのゲームは、実際にギャンブルをすることなく、ギャンブルの感覚を味わうことができます」とキャンベルは言います。「ドーピングとドーパミンの交差点のようなものです」。
The Reef looks like a lounge, but cannabis consumption is still illegal everywhere in Detroit, except in private homes.According to Campbell, new regulations on cannabis lounges are currently being written by the city's Cannabis Control Board and "should be in the pipeline soon."At that time, The Reef plans to apply for a cannabis lounge license.
Campbell said The Reef plans to expand to three Detroit-area cannabis "casinos" in the coming months and add 3 new employees to its staff.
