Just two months ago, a British couple won a home for £2 million (US$300 million) in a charity raffle. Now, instead of keeping their little slice of paradise with 330-degree views, they might sell it.
Uttam Parmar and his wife Raki won the house offered as the top prize in a charity raffle in August.Considering the location of this house, it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for everyone. But Cornwall charity homes say the Palmers may let it go.
The lucky couple haven't made a final decision yet, but apparently they're seriously considering selling.Someone may have tempted them with a profit they might get.
A small piece of paradise with a big price tag
The house is fully furnished in Cornwall, South West England, between the Atlantic Ocean, the English Channel and the River Tamar. It offers unobstructed views of the Camel Estuary, with panoramic views from nearly every corner.
The master bedroom is large enough to get lost in, and there are three more bedrooms, which are also large enough to create the illusion of a New York apartment-dwelling mansion. Each has a private bathroom.
Additionally, there is a large wet room for changing after spending time on or in the water. This room is located on 5 acres of beach and nature.
When the Palmars learned they had won the lottery, they immediately began weighing their options. One real estate agent said rent for £1 ($5) or stay permanently.A sale is also being considered.
The latter now seems to be the route a lucky winner might take.At the very least, they'd be interested in how far someone would go to get this property.
The Palmers are putting the house up for sale.It is already up for sale with a minimum bid of £400 million (US$451 million).
The charity lottery brings in a lot of money
The raffle was sponsored by online fundraising organization Omaze, which also covered taxes (approximately US$40) and administrative costs. The raffle was part of a fundraising effort for the British Blood Cancer Society, with £4 million (US$100 million) in donations sent to the organization.
Raffles and lotteries continue to provide much-needed funding to charities across the UK.In 2020, more than £3 million (US$6700 million) was donated to charity through lotteries, according to UK Gambling Commission data.
This was a 19% year-on-year increase, even as the country grapples with COVID-10.7.Participation costs are relatively low, with some starting at £1 (US$1.12).
For the option Omaze chooses, there are even cheaper ones. For example, it costs just £15 (US$10) to enter 11.19 draws to win a house in Marbella, Spain.
